Autel MaxiCharger vs ChargePoint Home Flex
Both do 50 amps. Both have capable apps. They diverge on the two things that decide a long-term purchase: how well the box survives the weather, and how freely you can change your mind about amperage.

These two land on a lot of the same shortlists, and for good reason: both are 50-ampsmart chargers from established brands, both carry ENERGY STAR and a three-year warranty, and both are priced in the same neighborhood. On the numbers that people usually compare — amps, kilowatts, miles per hour — they are identical.
So the comparison has to be made on the specs people usually skip. There are exactly two that matter here, and they point in opposite directions: the enclosure, where Autel is clearly ahead, and adjustable amperage, where ChargePoint is.

Charging speed: identical, and constrained by the same thing
Both are rated at 50 amps, which at 240 volts is 12 kW — roughly 42 miles of range per hour at our standard reference of about 3.5 miles per kWh. Both need a 60-amp circuitto deliver it, because the NEC sizes a continuous load at 125% of the charger’s current.
And both are capped by the same external limit: your car’s own onboard charger. If your EV accepts 11.5 kW on AC, neither of these will ever deliver 12. That is worth checking before you spend anything — our sizing guide explains where to find the number.
Where Autel wins: the enclosure
Autel states NEMA 4X compliance and an operating temperature range of -40°F to 131°F. ChargePoint’s own datasheet gives the Home Flex a Type 3R rating per UL 50E and a range of -22°F to 122°F. Both figures come from the manufacturers, and the gap between them is real.
NEMA’s own definitions are the way to read this. A Type 3R enclosure protects against falling dirt and against rain, sleet and snow — which covers a wall under an eave, a garage, or a sheltered carport perfectly well. A Type 4 enclosure adds windblown dust, splashing water and hose-directed water, and the X adds protection against corrosion. In practical terms:
- Inside a garage: the difference is irrelevant. Buy on other criteria.
- Outside under shelter: both are fine. 3R is what it is for.
- Fully exposed to driving rain, or washed down: the 4X is the right answer.
- Coastal, or road salt in winter: the corrosion resistance in the X is the specific thing you are buying.
- Genuinely cold climates:Autel’s published -40°F floor is 18°F below ChargePoint’s. If your winters test that, it matters.

Where ChargePoint wins: adjustable amperage
The Home Flex sets its output anywhere from 16 to 50 amps in the app. That is the widest range of any mainstream charger we track, and it is more useful than it sounds because it decouples the charger from the circuit.
Concretely, it means you can buy the charger before you know what your electrician will say. If the load calculation comes back tight, set it to 24 or 32 amps and install a smaller circuit — no return, no second purchase, and no compromise on the hardware. If you later upgrade the panel, raise the setting. If you move house, adapt it to whatever the new address offers. The Autel is a fixed 50-amp unit set at install. That is entirely normal — most chargers are — but it means the circuit decision is made once and the charger has to fit it.
The apps, and the support behind them
ChargePoint’s app is the most mature in home charging, and the maturity shows in unglamorous ways: schedules that hold, reminders when you forget to plug in, session history that goes back far enough to be useful, and a single account that also works on the public ChargePoint network. Autel’s app is capable — scheduling, monitoring, adjustment — and its ecosystem is newer with correspondingly less history behind it.
Whether that is worth anything depends on you. If you plan to schedule charging in your car — which nearly every modern EV can do — the charger app becomes a record-keeping tool rather than a control surface, and the maturity gap shrinks. We argue that case at length in smart vs dumb chargers.

The verdict
Choose the Autel MaxiChargerif the charger lives outside and the weather is a real factor. NEMA 4X and a published -40°F floor are not marketing adjectives; they are the difference between a unit that is rated for your wall and one that is merely likely to survive it. The extra two feet of cable is a small bonus.
Choose the ChargePoint Home Flexif the charger lives in a garage or under shelter, and any of the following is true: your circuit size is uncertain, a panel upgrade is a maybe, you might move, or you actually want to use a charging app. The 16–50 A range is the single most future-proof feature in this comparison.
Either way, do the electrical work first. A load calculation and an install quote will tell you more about what this project costs than the difference between these two boxes ever will.

Which has the longer cable?
Autel, by two feet: 25 feet against ChargePoint's 23. Both are long by class standards, and two feet rarely decides anything — but if your measurement came out marginal, measure the actual cable path rather than the straight line before committing, because mounting height alone can consume three or four feet of effective reach.
Which should I buy?
Buy the Autel if the charger lives outdoors in a harsh climate, where the NEMA 4X enclosure and -40F rating are worth real money. Buy the ChargePoint if your circuit might change, if you value the most mature app in home charging, or if you want a charger that adapts to a future house. If neither factor is decisive, they are close enough that price on the day is a reasonable tiebreaker.
