Wallbox Pulsar Plus vs ChargePoint Home Flex
Both are premium smart chargers at similar money, and they solve different problems. One is built for a tight garage and a full electrical panel; the other for a household whose circuit might change. Here's how to tell which is you.

These two sit at the top of most smart-charger shortlists at broadly similar money, and the temptation is to compare them on amps — where they are nearly identical and the comparison tells you nothing. The useful framing is different. The Wallbox Pulsar Plus is built to solve constraint problems: not enough wall, not enough panel. The ChargePoint Home Flex is built to solve uncertainty problems: a circuit that might change, a house you might move from, a household that wants the safest default. Speed is not the difference
Two amps and two miles of range per hour separate them at full output, and both need the same 60-amp circuitto get there — the NEC sizes a continuous load at 125% of the current, so 48 amps and 50 amps both land on a 60-amp breaker. Over a full overnight charge the gap is about sixteen miles, on a night when both finished hours early.
Which means the decision is made on everything except speed. Two questions do almost all the work: how much panel capacity do you have, and how settled is your situation?
If your panel is full: Power Boost is the answer
This is the Pulsar Plus’s genuine differentiator and the reason it exists on this list. Adding a 48-amp charger normally means a dedicated 60-amp circuit, and if your panel is close to its limit that can force a service upgrade — a job that frequently costs more than the charger itself.
Power Boostis Wallbox’s dynamic load balancing. With a compatible energy meter installed, the charger continuously watches the home’s total draw and dials its own output up or down in real time so the combined load never exceeds what the service can carry. When the dryer and the oven are running it eases off; when the house goes quiet at midnight it pulls full power. Nothing trips, and no panel upgrade is needed.
The Home Flex has no equivalent. What it offers instead is manual flexibility — you can set a lower fixed amperage — which solves a static capacity problem but not a dynamic one. If your situation might change: adjustability wins
The Home Flex’s counter-argument is range: output adjustable in the app from 16 to 50 amps. That is a genuinely wide band, and it means one charger is correct on a modest circuit in a rental, a 50-amp circuit in the house you own now, and a 60-amp circuit after a future upgrade — without buying a second unit.
The install flexibility compounds it. ChargePoint sells the Home Flex in hardwired and plug-in NEMA 14-50configurations, so it can be a renter’s charger that comes off the wall or an owner’s permanent fixture. Size, cable and enclosure
Three physical specs, and they split.
Size goes decisively to Wallbox.The Pulsar Plus is among the smallest 48-amp chargers on the market — a compact square rather than a slab. In a narrow garage bay, beside a door, or on the only patch of clear wall you have, that is not an aesthetic preference; it is whether the charger fits.

Enclosure goes to Wallbox on paper: NEMA Type 4, which in NEMA’s own definitions adds windblown dust, splashing and hose-directed water protection to what Type 3R covers (falling dirt, rain, sleet and snow). Both are legitimate outdoor ratings; Type 4 is the stronger one. Note the temperature ceiling though: Wallbox publishes -22°F to 104°F while ChargePoint publishes -22°F to 122°F, so in genuine desert heat the Home Flex has more headroom. The apps, and the ecosystems behind them
ChargePoint’s app is the most mature in home charging, and it is not close. It has had years of iteration on scheduling, reminders and usage history, and it connects to ChargePoint’s public charging network — so one account covers the garage and the road trip. If you want the software least likely to irritate you in year three, this is it.
Wallbox’s app is clean and does the job, and it adds one practical advantage: Bluetooth alongside WiFi. Chargers get mounted in exactly the concrete corners where home WiFi is weakest, and a Bluetooth fallback means you can still control the unit when the network drops. Small, but it addresses a real failure mode of connected chargers.
Both make more sense if you are on a time-of-use rate, where scheduling into the off-peak window is worth real money. If you are on a flat rate and your car schedules its own charging, neither app is doing much — see smart vs dumb chargers.
So which should you buy?
- Buy the Wallbox Pulsar Plus ifyour panel is nearly full and Power Boost can save you a service upgrade, your garage is tight, or the charger is going somewhere that wants a Type 4 enclosure — and hardwiring was always the plan.
- Buy the ChargePoint Home Flex if your circuit might change, you want the option of a plug-in install, you value the most mature app and public network integration, or you simply want the safest default from the biggest name.

Which is faster, the Wallbox Pulsar Plus or the ChargePoint Home Flex?
The Home Flex, slightly: 50 amps and about 12 kW versus the Pulsar Plus's 48 amps and 11.5 kW — roughly 42 versus 40 miles of range per hour at a reference 3.5 miles per kWh. Both need a 60-amp hardwired circuit for those figures, and on a smaller circuit both run at whatever that circuit allows, so the difference disappears.
What is Power Boost and do I need it?
Power Boost is Wallbox's dynamic load balancing. With a compatible meter installed, the charger watches your home's total electrical draw and reduces its own output in real time so the combined load never exceeds what your service can carry. You need it if your panel cannot spare a full dedicated circuit — in that situation it can let you add a charger instead of paying for a service upgrade.
Can either charger be plugged in rather than hardwired?
Only the ChargePoint. The Home Flex is sold in hardwired and plug-in NEMA 14-50 configurations, so it can suit a renter with a suitable outlet. The Pulsar Plus is hardwired only — there is no plug-in version at all, which rules it out if you want a charger you can unplug and take with you.
Which has the better app?
ChargePoint's is the more mature, with years more iteration behind it, reliable scheduling and usage history, plus integration with the ChargePoint public charging network. Wallbox's app is clean and capable and adds Bluetooth alongside WiFi, which is genuinely useful in a garage with weak WiFi. Which is better for a small garage?
The Pulsar Plus, clearly. It is among the most compact 48-amp chargers you can buy — closer to a smart-home device than a piece of garage equipment — which matters when the only available wall is beside a door or in a narrow bay. The Home Flex is a physically larger unit.
Do both work with a Tesla?
